This probably constitutes abuse of admin powers, but at least we're open about not being a democracy.

It actually also presents a problem to the user. They can't log in with the old username and have to use the new one which they may or may not realise has been changed.

Oops, I didn't realise that. ZeroNowhere already changed the guys username from Brodiga to Bordiga so I guessed it was something were capable of doing without repercussion. Still, we can't let him retain the username 'Amadeo Bordiga' after a statement like that. Decisions, decisions.

Of course he can keep that user name; it's just a cover. If somebody pops up with the user name "Iskra" but takes a position completely opposed to Lenin and the Bolsheviks, are we going to demand he or she changes the user name?

If somebody takes the username of Marx and says something I, or you, think is completely out of line with Marx's critique, are you unilaterally going to change that user name?

I think the BA is much better off not fucking with user names, or filters turning one word into another, or any of the sort of capricious exercise of authority. Better to argue out the content, and if necessary, ban somebody based on the content, not their fucking user name.
