I've been meaning to make this for a while but my duties as an Anglican priest haven't left me much spare time. Even though these threads aimed at maintaining continuity often die I thought it would be worth a shot since film has a broad enough audience. Just post movies that you've been watching, give them a review if you like.

Anyway I just watched Tarkovsky's 'The Mirror'. Like most of his films it's pretty stunning visually without much required from the dialogue. I liked it.

I'm a movie nerd and I've basically gave all the good stuff to Savage, so I'll just write about 5 last movies I've watched.

1. When The Last Sword Is Drawn (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0359692/)
This is basically samurai-revival movie. You know how Kurosawa and Kobayashi filmed bunch of samurai movies, so this is like modern version of those movies. It has great plod, camera, characters are incredibly good portrait and it has a little dose of black humor (mixed with few Japanese "thrash" film effects, but you can barely see that). Movie questions that standard Japanese hierarchy & honor issue. It's quite good.

2. Kikujiro (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0199683/)
This is one of early Kitano's movies. It's low budget production and storyline is quite simple. It's about little boy without father who's living with his grandmother and who decided to travel alone to meet his mother who's working on other part of country. On his journey he meats local loser and bookie (Kitano himself) who's wife ordered him to escort little boy to his mother. Movie is basically about relationship between boy and man, which is actually autobiographical movie about Kitano and his father.

3. Dancer in the Dark (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168629/)
I doubt that I have to write a lot about this movie, cause you have probably all watched it. **örk plays women from Czechoslovakia going to USA with her son to become movie star in Hollywood. Well, we all know how do such ideas end in the end... Movie is pretty cool because it's taped by "home camera", so if you can't take that better don't watch it.

4. Svidd neger (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365810/)
Explosive Situation from revleft gave me this movie few months ago, but I've watched it recently with a friend. It's movie from Norway. It's about guy who lives with his daughter in the middle of nowhere and who killed his wife because she got pregnant with black guy. He even tried to kill the kid but sea took it, so few years ago you there's this little black kid in the middle of nowhere in Norway thinking that he's probably Finnish cause he doesn't look like anyone else. Tbh, this movie is quite schizo schizo and if you want to die laughing, just take a shot.

5. Pulse (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286751/)
And I wouldn't be myself if I didn't post a horror movie. Well, tbh this is the most depressing movie I've ever watched, because its about being alone for eternity.... Jesus ****... I've cried when I've watched it. I just feel like that....

Oh yeah, Табор уходит в небо (www.imdb.com/title/tt0073781/) is probably the best Soviet/Russian movie ever:

but of course, Tarkovskij rules... except that he was a Stalinist wanker, but what can you do. Artists.

The length of von trier films in things like Dancer in the Dark is a lot more challenging to me than his other patented directing techiques (such as the hand held camera) which tend to **** a lot of people off. I recently watched 'The Idiots' though which isn't painfull in that way although I'm still not sure what to think of it as a whole.

What did you think of Dogville or Melancholia? Antichrist was supposed to be a Tarkovsky tribute apparently, I got very bored of with that movie.

Talking about "ville's", I find Pleasantville (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120789/) better than Dogville and since Tobey Maguire acts in that one I think that it's quite obvious how much I dislike Dogville.

You know that I pretty much dislike American cinema. Except, Veronica Lake's* movies. Jesus, I'd fucking marry her and be her dog if I could.
